Where to Find Wo-Chien
Wo-Chien is located deep within the Grasswither Shrine in South Province Area One. This shrine is initially sealed shut, so you won’t be able to simply walk in and find Wo-Chien. First, you need to remove the 8 Purple Ominous Stakes that are keeping the shrine closed.
These stakes are spread out across different locations in south and southeast Paldea. Check out the map below to see all the specific spots you’ll need to visit:
Once you pull out the final stake near the shrine entrance, the seal will break and you can enter inside.
Opening the Sealed Shrine
To recap, here are the steps to open the Grasswither Shrine:
- Travel to each location marked on the map to find the 8 Purple Ominous Stakes
- Interact with each stake to pull it out of the ground
- Removing the last stake by the shrine entrance will open the seal
- The shrine will now be open for you to enter and find Wo-Chien!
It’s recommended you explore these areas only after completing the main story, as the stakes are found in higher level zones. Having a flying Pokémon like Koraidon or Miraidon will make traveling to the spots much faster too.
Preparing to Catch Wo-Chien
Before attempting to catch Wo-Chien, make sure your team is properly prepared:
- Your Pokémon should be around Level 60 or higher
- Stock up on useful Pokéballs – Ultra Balls, Timer Balls, Dusk Balls
- Have Pokémon that can withstand or are strong against Wo-Chien’s Dark, Grass and Ground type attacks
- Great counters include Ice, Bug, Poison, and Fairy types. Avoid using Fire types.
Healing items, status condition healers, and Revives are also very useful when battling this powerful legendary Pokémon.
Battling and Catching Wo-Chien
When you’re ready, save your game right before entering the shrine. This will let you reset and try again if you fail to catch Wo-Chien on your first attempt.
Here are some tips for the battle:
- Wo-Chien’s ability reduces Attack, so use Special Attack moves like Ice Beam, Dazzling Gleam, Sludge Bomb etc.
- Chip away at its health using your most powerful special moves
- Inflict status conditions like Sleep or Paralysis to make catching easier
- Keep trying different Pokéballs until one works!
Be patient and keep at it. With the right preparation and strategy, you can add Wo-Chien to your Pokédex!
