Shiny Miraidon and Koraidon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduced players to new legendary Pokemon Koraidon and Miraidon. These two mystical creatures serve as ride Pokemon to explore the Paldea region by land, sea, and sky. One question players have is – can you catch shiny versions of Koraidon and Miraidon?

Shiny Pokemon have alternate colour schemes compared to regular Pokemon but share the same stats. Shinies are highly coveted by collectors due to their rarity. The chance of encountering a shiny Pokemon in the wild is extremely low, around 1 in 4096. This makes shiny Pokemon very difficult to obtain.

Unfortunately, both Koraidon and Miraidon are “shiny-locked” in Scarlet and Violet. This means it is impossible to acquire or catch their shiny versions through normal gameplay. They are programmed to be unobtainable as shinies. Other Pokemon like Gimmighoul, Gholdengo, Ting-Lu, Chien-Pao, Wo-Chien, and Chi-Yu are also shiny-locked. This follows the pattern of previous Pokemon games where main legendary mascots could not be caught as shinies.

While players cannot catch shiny Koraidon or Miraidon, their shiny sprite designs likely exist unused in the game code. Even though inaccessible, one could imagine what their shiny colour schemes may look like.

There is a very slight chance of briefly seeing a shiny Miraidon in the game. In the Snow Slope area, there is approximately a 1 in 4000+ probability that a shiny Miraidon will appear as the ride Pokemon for that section. This temporary shiny Miraidon cannot be caught – it can only be ridden briefly before disappearing.

Koraidon and Miraidon actually connect back to the Pokemon Cyclizar in terms of origins. Koraidon represents the ancient form of Cyclizar, while Miraidon is its futuristic evolution. Their designs as paradox Pokemon tie back to Cyclizar’s lore.

In summary, while shiny versions of Koraidon and Miraidon are locked, these legendary Pokemon remain important for exploring Paldea and connect to Cyclizar’s backstory. Their shiny forms may someday become available in future Pokemon games!
