Adventure Week has returned to Pokémon Go! From July 27th to August 2nd, there are tons of rock type Pokémon to catch for this fossil-themed event. One of the most exciting parts of Adventure Week is the chance to finish event-exclusive Collection Challenges. This year, there are four challenges based around the different fossil types from various Pokémon generations.
The Cover and Plume challenge features the fossil Pokémon from Gen V – Archen and Tirtouga. This guide will teach you how to find and evolve these rare Pokémon in time to complete the challenge and claim some fossil-tastic rewards!
What is the Cover and Plume Challenge?
The Cover and Plume challenge is one of the four fossil Collection Challenges available during Adventure Week 2023. To complete it, you need to catch and evolve Archen into Archeops and Tirtouga into Carracosta before time runs out!
Completing this challenge before it ends on August 2nd at 8PM local time will reward you with:
- 2000 Stardust to power up your Pokémon
- An encounter with the rare Gen VI fossil Pokémon Amaura
With the clock ticking, let’s get started!
Locating Those Rare Fossil Spawns
Archen and Tirtouga are usually pretty rare spawns in the wild. However, during Adventure Week their spawn rates are increased. They will be appearing more frequently, though still not super commonly.
In the Wild
Here are some tips for tracking down these tricky fossil Pokémon:
- Check your Nearby radar and sightings often. If one appears, go track it down!
- Scan parks, nature reserves, and waterfront areas for potential habitats.
- Ask your local Discord or Facebook group if anyone has seen them spawning.
With Lures and Incense
- Use Incense and Lure Modules to attract more Pokémon to your location.
- Try dropping Lures at PokéStops in areas fossil Pokémon may appear.
Hatch 7km Eggs
- Archen and Tirtouga are in the event 7km egg pool.
- Hatch as many 7km eggs as possible during the event.
With some perseverance, you should be able to encounter both Archen and Tirtouga before time runs out!
Evolving Archen and Tirtouga
Once you’ve got your Archen and Tirtouga, it’s time to evolve them into Archeops and Carracosta. Here’s what you need:
Evolve Archen into Archeops
- 50 Archen Candy
Evolve Tirtouga into Carracosta
- 50 Tirtouga Candy
To get candy faster:
- Use Pinap Berries when catching Archen and Tirtouga. This doubles the candy you receive.
- Walk Archen or Tirtouga as your buddy to earn candy over time.
- Trade any extra you catch to reroll IVs and get a candy for the trade.
- Stack encounters and evolve them all during a Lucky Egg to get 2x XP.
With a little effort, you’ll have the candy needed to evolve your fossils in no time!
Completing the Fossil Challenge
Once you’ve evolved Archen into Archeops and Tirtouga into Carracosta, congratulations, you’ve completed the Cover and Plume challenge! Make sure to do so before August 2nd at 8PM local time.
After catching and evolving all four required Pokémon, you’ll receive:
